Passion Assignment

Passion Assignment

What are you passionate about?  What do you enjoy doing in your free time?  What is most important to you?  We often do not get the time or opportunity to pursue our passions.  In life we have to make a choice between doing what pays the bills and what we really enjoy.  I want to know what you are passionate about.  This will help me understand you better and hopefully figure out ways to successfully engage you in my class.  This is your first assignment.  You will respond to the following questions:

1.  What is your favorite thing to do when you aren't doing what you are told?
2.  What do you enjoy most about it and how did you discover it?
3.  Find out something interesting about its history. (For example, I love watching TV, I might research the story behind the invention of TV)

You will post this information on this blog.  That way we can all learn a little more about each other.  This is a basic partnering activity and the first of many activities where you will be asked to share your thoughts out in the open.  Be honest and respectful.  You all are welcome to comment on each others post and I encourage you to respond thoughtfully to what your classmates write.

Good Luck,
Mrs. Kleczka

  1. I really love this idea, Jenny. I like the way you outlined what you wanted from the kids in language that is easy for them to understand (you even referenced TV, a favorite for many students, I am sure). I look forward to following the blog further and getting ideas from you.

    Thanks!

  2. I have always believed that learning about my student's passions is a great way to get to know them. It helps in many areas of teaching. If I know what my students interests are it helps me to give them suggestions for presentations, build better relationships which in turn helps with classroom management, and also helps guide my curriculum to foster engagement. I always take the time to get to know my students because if I take the time they will take the time to understand my interest which happens to be history, which is what I teach. Also, if students know about each other's passions it allows for a more collaborative environment where students are not afraid to take risks. They will feel comfortable sharing ideas with one another. It often lead to new friendships because as students find out each others passions it can lead to connections being made through common interests.
